When is trash picked up?

Pick up is provided for by the County – 404-294-2900

Household Garbage – Trash is picked up on Tuesday’s and Friday’s.  Your residential collection services are billed with your annual property tax statement as a separate line item.  Please note garbage cans are picked up by people not machinery please use garbage cans that can easily be picked up.

Yard Trimmings – Yard trimming will be picked up on Thursdays.  Use biodegradable paper bags, clean cardboard boxes or durable clean cans that have not been exposed to household waste. All bags, boxes, or containers must not exceed 20-40 gallons in size or 50 lbs in weight. *** Please note *** Plastic bags are not acceptable.

Recycling – Recycling is picked up on Thursday.  See Recycling information below.

Tree Limbs – Tree limbs under 4 inches in diameter must be shorter than 4 feet.  Lims over 4 inches in diameter must be cut in 2 to 2 ½ foot sections.  All limbs must be stacked neatly at the curb.  You will be charged for trees cut by professional tree cutters.

Consider a Brush Pile — If possible instead of placing Yard Trimmings and Tree Limbs at the curb please consider saving resources and creating a wildlife habitat by creating a mulching or brush pile.   Piles of  branches or a brush pile creates a habitat for many birds (more information and directions at  http://www.birdwatching.com/tips/brushpile.html ).  Mulching piles create topsoil.  Not bringing items to the curb saves resources such as gas and money by not having to buy the bags.

Special Pickups – For pickup of large items, appliances, and dead animals, call 404-294-2900 after the items are at the curb.  Building material, dirt, rocks, concrete products, automobile bodies and tires will not be picked up.  You may carry them to one of the County Diposal Facilities, call 404-294-2900.

Elderly Neighbors can apply for Back Door Trash Pick up – Elderly or infirm residents of DeKalb County may apply for back door pickup.  You must have a doctor’s statement and apply through the Sanitation Department.
